Summary: Magnetic resonance is recently used ever more frequently also in the diagnosis of tumours of the
sympathetic nerve, which are among the most frequent tumours of child age. It assesses more
reliably than other imaging methodsthe size of thetumour, its stageandresectability. The advantage
is in particular the possibility to visualize the tumour in selected planes, the possibility to assess
accurately the relationship of the tumour to blood vessels and the spinal canal incl. the spinal cord
and last but not least the patient is spared the radiation load. Magnetic resonance is becoming in
suspect tumours of the sympathetic nerve a decisive diagnostic method of the imaging algorithm.
