Summary: Intestinal obstruction belongs to one of the most common surgical problems. Among well known and frequent
causes of this disease, there are sometimes quite rare ones. In this article one of these rare cases is presented.
A patient with weight loss, fever and other „minor symptoms“ developed intestinal obstruction. Massive
intraabdominal lymphadenopathy was proved subsequently and the patient with a strong suspicion of malignant lymphoma was indicated for taking biopsy. The result was unexpected and showed Whipple’s disease.
Authors present the similarity of symptoms of malignant lymphoma and Whipple’s disease and the possibility
of intestinal obstruction by compression of the small intestine in Whipple disease.
