Summary:

Objective: Retrospective analysis of the results of infrarenal abdominal aorta percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Evaluation of technical and clinical success rate of the method. Material and methods: Angioplasty was performed in 7 patients with occlusive disease of the infrarenal abdominal aorta. Authors treated 6 stenotic lesions of atheromatous origin and one short total occlusion, very probably caused by arteritis. In two patients a kissing balloon technique was used, in another five patients a selfexpandible nitinol stent was implanted. Results: Primary technical success rate was 100%, no major complications were experienced. All patients are symptom-free during a follow-up period of 2 months - 13 years. Conclusion: Endovascular therapy (PTA/stenting) can be recommended in patients with stenosis or short occlusion of the infrarenal abdominal aorta. The method has a high technical and clinical success rate, favourable long-term clinical results and low complications rate.
