Summary:

Changes of the cytological picture in CSF examinations in patients after neurosurgical operations are common. There are reports that material permanently implanted into the liquor space (e.g. VP shunt) may cause certain cytological changes. The authors investigated the cytological reaction in liquor in patients to whom a stent was implanted during endoscopic operations on account of hydrocephalus or an arachnoid cyst and did not detect permanent serious changes in the cytological picture.

Key words: cytology, liquor, neuroendoscopy, stent
