Summary:
The therapy of larynx cancer is among others dependent on the localization and size
of primary tumor, the extent of node involvement, general health state of the patient and the
required quality of voice. The techniques of partial or almost total resections of larynx enable
surgical therapy in selected cases without necessary removal of larynx on the whole. The paper
analyzed a cohort of 69 patients with carcinoma of larynx. The three-year overall survival in the
group was 65%, five-year survival being 49%. A partial resection was performed in 24 patients of the
group. The authors analyze performed partial resection of larynx in view of different clinical and
histopathological classification and draw attention to insufficient or excessive radicality of the
intervention. Factors of particular importance, participating in the indications of partial resections
of larynx are discussed. The best results in postoperation survival were reached after chordectomy
and vertical partial resections of larynx. Local relapses were observed more frequently in supraglottic
tumors and horizontal resections of larynx. After horizontal interventions there was also
a higher morbidity in the postoperation period.
