Summary: The venous drainage disorder with the risk of cerebral and sinus thrombosis is actually
more frequent cause of clinical symptoms than it is generally assumed. Even slowed-
down venous return of blood from the brain has become a high-risk factor especially
in thrombophilia or in hypercoagulation conditions. The authors describe the
case of paroxysmal headache in a 22-years old man with posttraumatic hygroma in
occipital region, which caused intermittent disorder in venous drainage. It was only
the magnetic resonance angiography and its venous phase, which confirmed disorder
of venous drainage as a cause of paroxysmal headache. The magnetic resonance angiography
with the examination of the venous phase is considered as a suitable sensitive
and non-invasive examination for the detection of cerebral venous drainage disorder.
