Summary:
The complications of celiac sprue are numerous and affect various organs and systems. They include tumors,
of which the most frequent is malignant lymphoma, carcinoma of the small intestine, esophagus and pharynx.
Other complications affect the digestive tube, liver, lungs, the skeletal, nervous and reticuloendothelial
system. The preventive measures are aimed at an early diagnosis, careful follow-up headed by an gastroenterologist and early introduction of a strict glutenree diet for the rest of the patient’s life.
