Summary:
Problems of changes of bone mineral density which are newly detected medical consequences of
eating disorders are discussed by the author. Osteopenia and osteoporosis are characterized by
low density of bones accompanied with a higher risk of fractures and stunting of growth, especially
in early and mid-adolescence. The etiology of osteopenia and osteoporosis differs from the same
medical symptom psotmenopausal women and requires specific attention and an adequate therapeutic
approach.
