Summary:
Microscopic colitis can be one of the most common causes of chronic diarrhoea. These are characterised by
normal endoscopy and abnormal colonic biopsy. There are two main subtypes of microscopic colitis: colagenous
and lymfocytic one. Also similar disorders of the same symptoms can be included: Brainerd’s diarrhoea,
pericryptic eosinofilic enterocolitis and colitis with minimal changes. Aetiology of microscopic colitis is not
known and treatment is difficult. In differential diagnosis of diarrhoeal disorders this disease is not often
considered.
