Summary:
Triplane fracture is an uncommon injury of the distal tibia in children and adolescents. If misdiagnosed and
incorrectly treated, it can háve weighty consequence in later life. This article describes methods to diagnose
and treat this relatively uncommon injury correctly. Results are based on a group of 10 patients treated
for triplane fracture at the University Hospital Olomouc between 2004 and 2008. Treatment lead to fracture
consolidation within 6 weeks in all children, followed by short rehabilitation. After one year, X- rays and cli-
nical checks confirmed fracture's full consolidation, without growth disorders and without distal tibia defor-
mity.
