Summary:
The number of in-patients at Psychiatric Hospital Prague Bohnice with substance-related diagnoses
and pathological gambling increased since 1994 to 2003 for alcohol related problems by 77 %, for problems
related to other psychoactive drugs almost 4-fold, and in pathological gamblers by 37 %. The
greatest increase among alcohol related problems occurred in withdrawal syndrome (about 4-fold).
The greatest increase in problems related to other drugs occurred in substance dependence (almost
5-fold). This trend probably reflects the epidemiological situation but some other factors discussed
in this paper may also be important.
Key words:
substance related problems, pathological gambling, in-patient treatment, epidemiology.
