Dynamic wedges or enhanced dynamic wedges are an option of clinical linear accelerators produced by VARIAN Medical Systems. This dynamic technique replaces manually inserted physical wedges. Dynamic wedges are controlled by an accelerator console, without necessity for the operator to enter the treatment room. Clinical use of this modality requires updating of the quality assurance programme of the linear accelerator to include tests of reliability and long-term stability of the enhanced dynamic wedges. The aim of the present work was to design the necessary tests and present three years’ experience with the QA programme for enhanced dynamic wedges of the linear accelerator Clinac 600 C.
