Summary:
The aim of the study was to evaluate the systemic response to Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. The acute
phase response was studied in 21 patients with duodenal ulcers before and 4 weeks after eradication therapy.
Serum interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, haptoglobin, acid a1-orosomucoid and circulating immune complexes
were assessed. We failed to find elevated values neither of serum interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, haptoglobin,
acid a1-orosomucoid nor circulating immune complexes before eradication therapy. There was no significant
difference in those values after successful HP eradication.
Key words:
Helicobacter pylori, acute phase response, interleukin-6, circulating immune complexes, eradication
therapy.
