Summary:
Pharmacoeconomic Aspects in the Treatment of Depressive Disorders
Rational prescribing of drugs may lead to balanced health insurance budget. This problem is the
object of a relatively new brunch – pharmacoeconomics. This article follows some of the trends
in the treatment of depressive disorders and intends to present that the treatment with so called
expensive psychopharmacs does not necessarily have to mean higher global costs. On the contrary it
may reduce them. This article compares direct and indirect expenses and shows that direct medical
expenses are often only a little part of the global cost.
