The main pathological finding on examination of the brain by magnetic resonance (MRI) in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is hyperintenzity signál in the T2 weighted image. The maximum of changes is found in the subcortical gray matter - in bacal ganglia and the thalamus, less frequently in the cerebellum or brain stem. In the gray matter of the cortex of the hemispheres the MRI changes are not marked despite the fact that the pathological findings are the same as in the subcortical areas. The positivity of findings varies according to data in the literature between 50 and 80 %. Substantially more accurate results are provided by examination using diffuse weighted images (DWI). The authors examined six patients with the diagnosis of CJD. Positive findings esere recorded in those patients where the interval between the MRI examination and the hrst clinical symptoms was at least 3 months.
