Image of Metastasis and Radionecrosis on MRI and Contribution of PET to the Differential Diagnosis - Case record
Liščák R. 1 , Bělohlávek O. 2 , Vymazal J. 3

Oddělení stereotaktické a radiační neurochirurgie, Nemocnice Na Homolce, Praha, 1

Summary:

Contribution of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET in neurological diseases including brain tumours is solution of specific questions, one of which is differentiation of viable tumours after radiosurgery or radiotherapy from radionecrosis. Authors presented a case report of a patient suffering from epidermoid lung cancer and brain metastases. While the MRI displayed similar lesions, the 18 FDG PET clearly showed the differences: the new cerebral metastasis corresponded to the focal increase of glucose metabolism and histologically verified radionecrosis with an almost identical MR image corresponded to a decreased glucose metabolism.

Key words: brain metastasis - radionecrosis - FDG - PET - MRI - radiosurgery
