Summary:
Recent molecular biological studies of the pancreatic development have shed new light on the cause of
MODY and diabetes mellitus type 2. The identification of transcription factors participating in the
regulatory networks cooperating in the development and in adult exocrine and endocrine pancreas
enabled the better understanding of the genetic background and subsequent phenotypic features of
diabetes.
