Summary:

Between January 1999 and February 2000 in the Central Military Hospital in Prague a total of 18 women was treated on account of symptomatic myomatosis by bilateral embolization of the uterine arteries by PVA 350-500 particles. Bilateral embolization was successful in 16 women (88.9%). In five women embolization was performed less than three months ago and the therapeutic results are not yet known. In 11 women (12 myomas) diminution of the volume of the myoma by 46.6% was achieved (Sx = 33.7%). Treatment led to improvement of the complaints associated with myomatosis. It had the greatest impact on severe haemorrhage and pain, and improved spontaneous activity. Complaints associated with treatment, in particular pain during embolization, wasperceived negatively. The general evaluation of treatment was favourable.
