Form of Wegener’s Granulomatosis with Affection of the Ear and Eye

Summary:
The authors present the case-record of a previously healthy 48-year-old female patient
with the limited form of Wegener’s granulomatosis. The disease was manifested by bilateral mastoiditis
with paresis of the facial nerve, complete loss of hearing on the left, serious impairment of
hearing on the right side and temporary occlusion of the a. centralis retinae on the right. In the
discussion the authors draw attention to the diagnostic pitfalls of the limited form of Wegener’s
granulomatosis. Immunosupressive and cytostatic treatment led within a relatively short time to
clinical and laboratory remission of the disease. In the conclusion the authors emphasize the
importance of team work in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
