The author analyzes in his lecture the development of clinical biochemistry during the last 50 years in the field of organization and concept of departments, in the sphere of technology (analytical, equipment, data processing) and in the scientific sphere. Integration of laboratory disciplines is foreseen in so-called laboratory medicine, in technology miniaturization (microchips, nanotechnology, biosensors, development of —in vivoio examinations), in data processing a detailed electronic record on the health status, worldwide networks for consultations. Molecular pathology and biochemical genetics will expand.
