Summary:
The system of clinical typology of the foot is developed with the goal to individually organize separate
types of feet into particular groups. This should help to explain variable incidence of foot malfunction
and variable success with therapy. “Anthropometrical“ methods, based on description of the shape,
size or other foot measurements, can only very marginally contribute to the choice of appropriate
therapy. On the contrary, functional typology of the foot can contribute to rational choice of the orthotic
insoles or other therapeutical measures in common and less serious disorders of the foot.Functional
typology is based on the knowledge of functional anatomy and kinesiology, mainly in relation between
subtalar and Chopart’s joint and mutual position of the tarsal and metatarsal joints. These characteristics
can significantly affect postural and locomotor function of the foot.
