Summary:
The case report deals with a patient who attended the Department of Ophthalmology for
a vision defect, which was caused by an extensive swelling of eyelids on both eyes, which
completely closed the palpebral fissures. There were no other complaints of the patient. In the
differential diagnosis the authors considered the accident in anamnesis, palpation finding on the
eyelids indicating an extensive emphysema, and the general examination, which revealed the
all-body extent of the same. The condition was caused by post-traumatic fracture of four ribs with
subsequent pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema, which predominated in the area of
eyelids and face.
Key words:
subcutaneous emphysema - pneumothorax - eyelid edema.
