Summary:
The investigated group comprises data of 43 patients who were examined
between Jan.1, 1996 and Dec.31, 2000 treated and systematically followed up at the author
s clinic on account of unilateral or bilateral fractures of the mandibular articular process. The
authors assembled complete X-ray documentation and made check-up X-ray examinations
corresponding to those made at the time of the injury. The basic demand was to visualize the
fracture in two projections normal to each other. Special attention was focused on the rate and
quality of remodelling processes. Fractures were classified according to the classification
suggested by Lund in 1974, as due to its simplicity it fully meets the demands of clinical practice
and at the same time makes retrospective classification according to previously taken X-rays
in different projections possible.
Key words:
fracture of the mandibular articular process – X-ray examination – Lund’s
classification – clinical articular process – remodelling procedures
