Transcranial Doppler in Evaluation of Acute Hemispheric Cerebral Infarcti- ons
Kanát D.

Summary:

The objective of the presented work was to find an answer to the question of the predictive value of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography when assessing the flow rate in the middle cerebral artery in patients in the acute stage of ischaemic cerebral attacks. Repeated TCD findings in 60 patients were correlated with CT pictures of the ischaemic focus and angiographic findings in the vascular back- ground of the middle cerebral artery. The authors investigated also the clinical status and some laboratory parameters in relation to the flow rates bilaterally in the MCA. The TDC finding of non-detectable MCA correlated with the AG finding of occlusion of the intracranial section of ACI or the truncal part of MCA, the more distal lesion corresponded to TCD with low flow rates in the ipsilateral MCA. Pathological TCD findings correlated also well with the location and size of the ischaemic focus according to the CT picture. The clinical state of the patients and the investigated parameters determining the plasma viscosity corresponded well with the flow rates in the MCA. Early TCD is thus valuable for the prediction of the definitive cerebral ischaemic damage.
