Summary:
The possibilities of treatment of chorioideal neovascular membrane (CNV) in
age-related macular degeneration are very limited. Conservative treatment has
no effect, laser coagulation is accepted nowadays as the method of choice only in
a selected group of patients and its results are more than disappointing. Surgical
extraction of subretinal neovascular membranes opens wider opportunities for
improvement of optic functions in indicated patients, in the majority it makes
their stabilization possible.
The authors present a group of their own 20 patients where extraction of CNV
was performed. They describe the technique of extraction, indications and results.
