The author presents basic information on the possibilities of digitalization of radiography and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). The system is defined as well as standards closely related (DICOM,HL7, IHE), the necessity of connection with the hospital information system is explained. The main parts of PACS are described and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed in comparison with the conventional work-flow.
