Summary:

The authors evaluated the findings of magnetic resonance (MR) in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients in this study from the point of view of various MR sequences contribution to the diagnosis: spin echo (SE) and turbo spin echo (TSE), combination of gradient and SE sequence (GraSE) and fat saturation sequence (STIR). Cervical spin was examined in 10 patients, and lumbar spin in 11 patients. Sequence TSE (T2 weighted images) was evaluated as the most sensitive method in the determination of morphological features of soft tissue spinal components, ligaments, discs and medulla. Sequence STIR was valuable in determination of signal changes in vertebral bodies.
