Summary:

14 patients with the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with involvement of the CNS were examined at the Dept. of the Computed Tomography (CT). The goal of the examination was to establish and to classify all morphological brain abnormalities of SLE by means of CT. Most patients were examined without contrast medium (85.7 %). Normal CT findings were found in 9 patients (62.3 %), pathological ones in 5 patients (35.7 %). Pathological findings were divided into diffuse, focal and combination of both. As the most frequent diffuse finding CT revealed cerebral atrophy (21.4 %) and among focal ones arachnoid cysts (14.3 %). As a combination of diffuse and focal changes multiple hypodenzity of the white matter of the both hemispheres with diffuse cerebral atrophy were recorded. The importance and evaluation of these findings in SLE are discussed.

Key words: systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), computed tomography of the brain (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), central nervous system (CNS), vasculopathy
