Possibilities of Metal Intolerance Detection in Dental Materials
Procházková J., Bártová J., Šterzl I., Kučerová H., Stejskal V.

Summary:

Altered metal tolerance in some patients develops in to hypersensitivity causing not only a local but a general reaction in the organism. This pathological condition is very hard to diagnose. Epicutaneous tests are not convincing, but they are the only official tests for metal intolerance. Memory lymphocyte immunostimulation assay test (Melisa™) – modified test of blastic transformation for metal antigens in ion configuration which enables monitoring of the altered immune reaction on given materials – is a precise and reliable tool of diagnosis. Another alternative is electroacupuncture according to Voll – a very sensitive method. The results of these three methods in our study in patients with intolerance to some metal components in dental materials were compared.

Key words: metal intolerance – diagnostics – epicutaneous tests – Melisa method – electro- acupuncture according to Voll
