Machálka M.

Klinika ústní, čelistní a obličejové chirurgie, LF MU v Brně a FN Brno-Bohunice, přednosta doc. MUDr. M. Machálka, CSc.

Summary:

Displaced and luxation fractures of the mandibular condyle require surgical reposition and fixation under direct sight supervision. Application of lag screws from the Eckelt-Martin instrumentation set has proved successful in treatment of 15 patients. No considerable complications occurred. The mandible is fully functional during the time of healing. An intermaxillary fixation, which is uncomfortable for the patient, is not necessary to be done. Though, it is necessary to remove the screw subsequently by another surgical operation. Complete instrumentation set is necessary to be available for the choice of the described method.

Key words: facial bone fractures – mandibular condyle – articular process of the mandible – osteosynthesis
