Summary:
The authors present a group of children with severe respiratory failure of varying etiology where partial liquid
ventilation (PLV) was administered seven times. Perfluorocarbon (PFC) Rimar RM 101 was used. Within three
hours of PLV a significant rise of pH and PaO2/FiO2 was achieved and reduction of FiO2 and the oxygenation
index. Administration of PFC was not associated with any complications. PLV is an effective method in ARDS in
some groups of patients.
